Ideas for creative musicians.

What is this?

Practical practice tips, musings on musicianship, and ideas about productivity, advocacy, and more. From a percussionist and learning nerd, for any creative musician.

Who am I?

I’m a percussionist, chamber musician, teacher, curator, writer, and lifelong music-lover dedicated to building community through the arts.

My work centers on advocating for the power of contemporary music in contemporary life. I commission and collaborate on bold new works, present carefully curated performances and recordings, and mentor the next generation of artists to be skilled collaborators and fearless creative thinkers.

Through writing and research, I explore how we learn—especially in the arts—and how that learning can fuel meaningful, long-term creative practice. This inquiry lives here and continues in its sister publication, Learn with Mike, and in my forthcoming book project.
